Scroll-handle Coffee cup, First Period Worcester, soft paste porcelain, c.1770 |
This fine Worcester scroll-handle coffee cup is painted in puce monochrome with formal, feather-like foliage, partly contained within a gold rococo scroll panel. Small insects are also painted amongst the sprigs. The pattern is believed to derive from Meissen, although no precise prototype is known. A set of the pattern is in the Museum of Worcester Porcelain. It is a good early example, with pooled glaze around the upper handle terminal, and a glazed clay tear inside the handle. Condition: Excellent - no chips, cracks or restoration. The gilding is unworn and the overglaze enamel pattern is well-painted. Dimensions: Height 2 1/8" (5.4cm) |
