Rice Spoon, First Period Worcester, soft paste porcelain, c.1775

This Worcester rice spoon is painted in underglaze blue with the Maltese Cross Flower pattern, a pattern which occurs only on press-moulded spoons. The porcelain is very fine, particularly the stem and also the moulded and painted flower head terminal.

Rice spoons are usually unmarked, but occasionally they can be found with an open crescent mark, as is the case with this piece.
