Small Mug, Worcester, soft paste porcelain, c.1770

Created during what is regarded as Worcester's Golden Age (1768-1780), this small, gently tapering mug is painted in colours with a flower spray and sprigs in the Meissen style. Throughout this period, Worcester created their own interpretations of Chelsea, Meissen, and Sevres wares. The rich blue enamel used in this case is rather rare for Worcester and shows awareness for those colours used on the Continent. Several items painted in a similar style are illustrated in the sale catalogue for the Zorensky Collection of Worcester Porcelain Part III.

The glaze has a distinct greenish hue when held against a strong light, typical of Worcester. The piece is unmarked.

Unmarked.

Condition: Excellent - no chips, cracks or restoration. The enamel painting is fine and detailed. There is the expected light kiln dust visible around the inner ring of the footrim.

Dimensions: Height 2 1/2" (6.3cm)
