Coffee cup, Worcester, soft paste porcelain, c.1765 |
This fluted coffee cup is decorated in underglaze blue with the attractive Hollow Rock Lily pattern. The design is based on the oriental and includes, as the name suggests, a hollow rock sprouting trailing floral decoration. The reverse features a bird in flight. This popular pattern was first used at Worcester in around 1758. Marked with an open crescent. Condition: Perfect - no chips, cracks or restoration. The pattern is clear and very attractively painted. Dimensions: Height 2 3/16" (5.6cm) (Branyan, French & Sandon, I.C.11, Worcester Blue and White Porcelain 1751-1790, Barrie & Jenkins, 1989). |
