Coffee cup, Worcester, soft paste porcelain, c.1765

 

This fluted coffee cup is decorated in underglaze blue with the attractive Hollow Rock Lily pattern. The design is based on the oriental and includes, as the name suggests, a hollow rock sprouting trailing floral decoration. The reverse features a bird in flight. This popular pattern was first used at Worcester in around 1758.

Marked with an open crescent.

Condition: Perfect - no chips, cracks or restoration. The pattern is clear and very attractively painted.
