Dessert Dish, Coalport, c.1835

This moulded Coalport dessert dish is decorated with a handpainted rustic scene of a man fishing beside a bridge, a picturesque ruin on the opposite side of the river. This scene is framed by a fine gilt dentil line and a wide grey border with ornate gilt scrolls and sprigs. Two of the sides are shaped to form handles.

This dish would have formed part of a large and expensive Coalport dessert service and reflects something of the taste for a revival of the Rococo style in English porcelain at that time.

Condition: Very Good - no chips, cracks or restoration. The gilt decoration and painted scene are in good order with very little wear.

Dimensions: Width 10" (25.4cm)
