Dessert Ladle, Spode, c.1812

This Spode ladle is decorated with the Bowpot pattern, being transfer printed and then painted overglaze with green enamels and gilt. The handle is painted with a gilt dot and leaf design. There were several variations of the Bowpot pattern, and this version was introduced in around 1812. It is likely that this ladle formed part of a dessert service.

The underside is painted with the pattern number 1867 in red.

Condition: Excellent - no chips, cracks or restoration. The enamel decoration shows no sign of wear. It is rare to find a ladle from this period in such fine condition as this.

Dimensions: Length 7" (17.8cm)

Spode, Leonard Whiter (Barrie & Jenkins), 1989.
