Slop Bowl, Worcester, soft paste porcelain, c.1770 |
Created during what is regarded as Worcester's Golden Age (1768-1780), this slop bowl is painted in colours with a flower spray and sprigs in the Meissen style. Throughout this period, Worcester created their own interpretations of Chelsea, Meissen, and Sevres wares. The rich blue enamel used in this case is rather rare for Worcester and shows awareness for those colours used on the Continent. Several items painted in a similar style are illustrated in the sale catalogue for the Zorensky Collection of Worcester Porcelain Part III. The glaze has a distinct greenish hue when held against a strong light, typical of Worcester. The piece is unmarked. Condition: Excellent - no chips, cracks or restoration. There is sign of wear to the enamels, particularly to the brown rim, and minor scratches. There is a small glazed firing fault on the inside of the foot rim. This piece would make an attractive addition to any collection of early English porcelain. Dimensions: Diameter 6" (15.2cm); Height 2 3/4" (7cm) The Zorensky Collection of Worcester Porcelain Part III (Bonhams, 22 February 2006). See lots 100, 116, 201 and 207. |
